Solution-Focused Brief Therapy
Achieving Meaningful Progress Through Solution-oriented, Goal-focused Therapy.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a goal-oriented approach aimed at achieving specific outcomes efficiently. Rather than focusing on past issues, it emphasizes solutions and forward movement, with the client actively defining their goals and the therapist guiding the process.
SFBT’s core is the establishment of clear, actionable goals. The therapist and client work together to clarify the client’s desired outcomes and visualize a future where those goals are achieved. A key tool in this approach is the “miracle question”: “If a miracle happened while you were asleep, what would be different when you wake up tomorrow?” This question helps clients envision a positive future and generate practical steps to make it a reality.
By utilizing techniques like scaling, focused questioning, and positive reinforcement, clients are empowered to identify their strengths and resources. This fosters confidence, builds resilience, and shifts focus from obstacles to opportunities, often leading to rapid, meaningful progress and lasting change.
